I began this project in 2018 in tribute to my dear friend who died from cancer. Kirk was a steadfast friend to me through our experience as students in massage school. There we learned, gained skills and developed techniques together. It was in that space I began to learn about the art of ethics, communication and the beauty and possibilities available with cross-disciplinary mindset.
His genuine curiosity for human physiology, experience, philosophy and zest for life inspire me.
I began this piece while preparing for his memorial with our fellow LMT community at Oregon School of Massage. I wanted to create the body from the inside out, and I made it life size. I wanted it to be a tactile exploration much like massage therapy is.
This piece ultimately failed because of the materials I used. I have since researched and plan to continue exploring representations of movement, stillness and artistic renderings of human anatomy using different mixed media materials.
